Fun blog - I'll have to add to my subscriptions!

I totally agree and I also do it myself.

A few years ago, I realized I was obsessed on the 4th of July and New Year's with trying to capture some good shots of fireworks on my digital camera. It's a standard point and shoot, consumer camera and I'm not a professional photographer. And, while I'm glad I learned enough about camera settings to get a few good shots - I realized I wasn't actually letting myself just *enjoy* the fireworks show. You know? My eyes were on my camera and the static images I was capturing, not on the fleeting show itself. I vowed to never try to take pictures of fireworks again. Same goes for pics/videos at concerts. Unless I'm truly the only observer of something I need to share - I should just enjoy being there and not trying to "capture" it on some device.

Want a hint from someone who has both "won" and lost at NaNo? Keep it simple. Begin with some idea of how you want the thing to end, and you'll be less likely to wind up in some corner with no way out. If it doesn't have an end, it's just one heck of a lot of words.
